Yes. They have a transformer built into them so the signal voltage can be stepped down. Usually, the speakers have a switch (or colour coded cables) which determine how many Watts of power that speaker is allowed to use. This switch is called a ‘tap’ and the various wattages that you can select are referred to as ‘tappings’. In addition low impedance speakers can only really be run 20-30M from the amplifier before the signal starts degrading, 100V Line can be run in excess of 400M with the right thickness of cable.
